of Breña (Lima) - 2005

By Providence disposition, anticipating human foresight, the Peruvian Institute of Andean Phytotherapeutic Research (IPIFA) was established in Lima in 1983, based on the charisma of a Polish salesian educator, Fr. Edmund Szeliga, thus transmitting and extending his talents, for the benefit of the community.

His educational-therapeutic concept could be summarized as overall health in education, or overall education for health, and not only for curative purposes, but for prevention as well.

Therefore, ensuring that this Institute remains faithful to its principles and far removed from mercantilist pretences that would lessen its value, is a common responsibility for all those committed to continuing with this work -which began more than two decades ago- to help promote an overall health in physical, mental, moral, social and environmental terms.

Although it is a private civil, non confessional, and juridically independent association, IPIFA was created sharing the charisma, principles and values of not just one salesian, but of the Salesian Congregation itself. In this respect, it is illustrative to read some of the excerpts (Lectio) of Senior Rector Fr. Pascual Chavez, published in the web page www.salesianosbilbao.com

In accordance with the above, the Provincial Salesian Inspector in Peru, Fr. Vicente Santilli, has asked one of its members, Fr. Guillermo Colombi, to help Fr. Edmund Szeliga with the pastoral service provided to members of IPIFA.
